Today we took one of the classes our hospital offers. It was just an hour and a half class that is a tour of the facility. They also show a video which provides in detail the benefits of breast feeding, what to do to to prepare for delivery, where to go when you're in labor, what you'll need to pack, and the different wings of the hospital you'll be in during your stay. My friend recommended the tour and she found it very emotional because it made everything feel more real. We chose to go around the same time as her - right towards the end of the pregnancy. My advice would be if you're having a tough pregnancy not to wait until the end like I did. It was miserable for me. Don't get me wrong, we now feel less anxious because we semi know what to expect - it was informative and I think any new parent should go. However, because I generally feel uncomfortable and miserable all the time I think it would've better suited me to go maybe in my 6th or 7th month. Now I'm just so huge that standing on my feet for any length of time is awful. Not to mention, for some reason it was extremely HOT in the rooms we went to. This surprised me because usually hospitals are always freezing. My judge of temperature is not a good one right now but the guide and my husband both thought it was pretty hot as well. Next thing I knew my heart was pounding and I felt like I was going to pass out because I was so overheated. (I really think even if I'm inside I just don't fare well on hot days. Yesterday was 95 degrees outside). I think the guide could tell I wasn't feeling well because she ended our tour 15 minutes early! Luckily some ice cold water and blasting a/c in our car helped me feel better pretty much almost instantly.
